The Full report can be found on the Results page.
Well done to all 8 swimmers that competed at Regionals this weekend, all credit to coaches and swimmers. There were some outstanding swims. Four Gold's, three Silvers and three Bronzes secured 4th on the medal table behind Ipswich, Hatfield and City of Peterborough. We were the highest placed team in Essex.
Tom McLagan, Eliza Duffy and Evie Fisher now have British Gas Youth National times. Eliza and Evie each gained another time for the British Gas National Championships, which is being used as an Olympic qualification event. The ladies team (Evie, Eliza, Hannah Travell and Sarah Larner) secured 2nd and 4th in the relays and should qualify for this years National's in at least one of them. They also broke two Essex Relay Long Course Records - one their own and the other a Killerwhales record from 1990.
The boys (Tom, Gus Veasey, George Knight and Mathew Thompson) finished 4th and 5th in their 15-18yrs relays which was a great improvement from their entry time.
On top of that there were a number of club records broken.
Farleigh Hospice Sponsored Swim
2nd May 2012
On Sunday 29th April the swimmers from Chelmsford Swimming Club visited Riverside Pool to help raise money for Farleigh Hospice's '30 for 30' campaign.
Swimmers from all sections of the club took part. A photocall with the Mayor of Chelmsford, whose chosen charity of the year is Farleigh Hospice took place and photographer Dave Smith was on hand to take these shots. Dave also braved the top board to take a great shot of the swimmers in the diving pit.
Not only did the children take part but also a number of parents and coaches. Head Coach Sean Eveleigh took a sponsored dive from the top board, and this contributed to the over £1000 that the club was aiming to raise.

Essex Championships 2012
7th April 2012
Chelmsford Swimming Club has had an amazing 3 weekends of competition at the Essex Championships. In total we had 40+ children who qualified with Essex Times this year. This is an unprecedented amount of swimmers, bearing in mind we are one of the smaller clubs. In Block C alone we won 16 Golds, 6 silvers, 7 bronzes and had 50 top 8 swimmers. Due to these performances across all age groups we finished 2nd overall in the county, the highest ranking Chelmsford has ever attained, missing out to one of the major clubs in the Essex area, who incidentally has treble the amount of swimmers that we have. Everyone should be immensely proud of this achievement as it has come about through hard work and dedication of the swimmers and the strong team of coaches that we now have. On top of this Tom McLagan, Eliza Duffy and Evie Fisher all won top swimmer in their respective age group, dominating their swims throughout the competition, with Hannah Travell, Sarah Larner and Courtney Sanders coming second.
Eliza, Evie, Hannah and Ethan Harrington also broke Event Best Times some that have stood for many years. Club Records tumbled throughout the age groups, with Max Duffy and John Barber gaining their first records. This is fantastic and proves that we have so many strong younger swimmers coming through.
We now look forward to the regional championships where we are hoping that some more National Times, on top of those already achieved, are gained

Essex County Championships - Block A
2nd March 2012
Congratulations to all swimmers that competed at the first weekend of Essex Championships.
Chelmsford are currently 2nd in the points table, which is a fantastic effort. The medal count was also impressive with 18 Gold's, 18 Silvers and 7 Bronzes. Nine Club Records were broken by Evie Fisher, Eliza Duffy, Hannah Travell, Tom McLagan and John Barber. Event Best Times were achieved by Eliza, Evie and Ethan Harrington.
One of the best highlights of the weekend was having 3 girls break the minute milestone for the 100 freestyle, Eliza, Hannah and Evie all went under 60 in their finals, all within a couple of minutes of each other. This is the first time a female swimmer has gone under a minute for the 100 free in CSC's history.
These fantastic results set the platform for the next block of Essex Champs on the weekend 10/11 March. Good Luck!

Chelmsford Swimming Club - Proposed Changes
7th September 2011
An email went out to everyone on the club's email list earlier this afternoon. The contents of the letter are as follows:
Dear Members, Parents and friends of Chelmsford Swimming Club,
I am writing to you in consultation on a matter of what I feel is supreme importance to the future of Chelmsford Swimming Club. Chelmsford Swimming Club has been around for over 100 years and if it is to survive for another 100 then I believe that fundamental changes need to be put in place to protect the future of swimming and aquatic sports in Chelmsford. Primary in achieving this is the need to ensure that we have the right structure to go forward.
The club needs to become an incorporated body and a registered charity if it is to avoid the pressures that a modern competitive and litigious society can bring to bear. We are now a significant trading operation with wide-reaching services and interfaces with the community. Additionally it should ensure that we are also able to reap some of the financial benefits that we currently miss out on. To that aim I have secured funding to allow us to engage professional advice on the best way forward.
Included via this link (Word) or this link (.pdf) is a draft of the Memorandum and Articles of Association for 'The Chelmsford Swimming Club Community Interest Company' which I propose we set up as a first step. Much of this document is taken from our existing constitution. Can I ask that you read it and feed back any questions and queries that you have.
We would value your feedback on this, and I will endeavour to get answered any questions that you may have.
This is step one.
If we are in agreement then the new company would take over operations from the club by the AGM in November, and transfer the assets to the new organisation. The new company would then seek Charitable Status as soon as possible, as this is a separate process. This will impose minimal extra administrative burden on the club as we already have in place sound systems and procedures.
If you have any questions or queries please either approach me on poolside at New Hall where I am most sessions, or by emailing me at chairman@chelmsfordswimmingclub.org.uk.
I would ask that we put a deadline on feedback by 25th September 2011.
Yours sincerely
Michael C Veasey
Chairman

Disabled Water Polo Section
18th March 2011
Chelmsford Swimming Club has started and set up the the first disabled water polo club in Britain.
It is currently running every Saturday at Moulsham High School for an hour and is open to all people with any disability above the age of 11.
The concept was born after one of the Chelmsford Water Polo coaches had a serious work accident and saw that people with any disability had no pathway route on to water polo or team sport in minor sports in the area. With the help of sportessex, Chelmsford Borough Council and Essex ASA funding, and the determination of Essex Inclusive Sporting Enterprise (EISE), this club has managed to start with only ASA membership payments needed from the swimmers as the pool hire costs were covered.
Inclusion sports are fun and played at a standard that suit all and the same is for the new Dolphins Water Polo Club where volunteers from Chelmsford Swimming Club give up their time to coach the members of the new and exciting club, be it in the shallow end for weaker swimmers or the deep end for the stronger ones.
This club in its 6 weeks of existence has shown that disability does not have to be a barrier to sport and some of the swimmers have learnt to swim as well as play a team sport for the 1st time.
So if you are interested in joining or know someone who would be, please contact Dean Walker on: thedolphins@hotmail.co.uk or waterpolo@chelmsfordswimmingclub.org.uk
Already other swimming clubs from neighbouring towns have been to see the training sessions which always end in a fun game, and Chelmsford Swimming Club are helping them to set up Disabled Water Polo clubs of their own so that there is a pathway on to competitive water polo v other clubs.
All the coaches do it on a voluntary basis so the cost depends on the number of people in the pool. The more people swimming the less it costs so please come along and bring a friend and try this new and exciting sport that Simon Burns MP and Boris Johnson are wanting to be kept up to date on its progress what with Chelmsford being the pinicle of this new disabled sport and with London 2012 being staged not far away.
The picture shows some of the new members and junior coaches with their Epsan Water Polo Equipment and copy of The Swimming Times. Two of the junior coaches are classified as disabled themselves which proves that anyone can play water polo.
Left to Right: Oliver Parker, Stephanie Parker,Alex Welby, Anna O'Connor, Beth Corrigan, Jonathan Birt and three of the junior coaches Josh Missen, Tor Hawes and Alfie Green.
The two un-named players are from Runnymede Swimming Club seeing how we run the new club and an adult helpers son who acts as ball boy!!

Ortus Londinium - Luxembourg
31st January 2011
Eliza Duffy, aged 13, travelled to Luxembourg with the Ortus Londinium squad last weekend to compete in the 13th Luxembourg Euro Meet 2011. She had some fantastic races and won two gold medals and one silver medal. She won the 200m backstroke in a long course time of 2:26.11 (a 3 second PB) and gained her first national qualifying time for 2011. She also won the 50m Backstroke in a time of 32.44 and came second in the 100m Backstroke in 1:09.48. Eliza also finished 5th in the 100m Freestyle (1:01.44), 8th in the 200m Freestyle (2:14.53) and 9th in the 50m Freestyle (29.12). In the 200m Backstroke she finished 20th in the open category and made it into the B final where she finished in 17th place. All this is amazing considering she is only 13 !
Well done Eliza! She is the first Chelmsford swimmer to gain a national time for 2011. Let's hope there will be plenty more over the next few months.
Eliza Duffy
14th January 2011
One of our club's top swimmers, Eliza Duffy aged 13, has been selected to travel to Luxembourg at the end of January to compete with the Ortus Londinium squad in the 13th Luxembourg Euro meet. Ortus Londinium is a squad of Essex's finest talents selected from National championships. The 23 strong squad will be travelling as a unit from a collective team made up from clubs around Essex. The squad are all attempting to secure British Championship and National championship times. The Essex athletes will once again be mixing in with some of Europe's finest Olympians. It gives the swimmers a great experience of international competition & how to handle being away from their home routine.
Eliza has also qualified for the British Championships to be held in Manchester 5th to 12th March. She will be brushing shoulders with all the top British swimmers including double gold medalists Liam Tancock and Rebecca Adlington as well as European champions Lizzie Simmonds, Hannah Miley and Gemma Spofforth. As well as competing for the national title, the top swimmers will be looking to qualify for the chance to represent Great Britain in the World Championships in August in Shanghai. This is an amazing experience for Eliza to be part of and we wish her good luck in both of these top level competitions.
English Channel Swim - 1st September
7th September 2010
Congratulations to one of our Masters swimmers, Jon Spriggs, who swam the English Channel last week in a time of 15 hours 27 minutes.
The conditions near France on the day were extremely difficult, and this is highlighted by the fact that out of 7 swimmers attempting the swim, Jon was one of only two who succeeded.

Gala Entries
26th March 2010
Just a reminder about gala entries. When entering a swimmer for a gala that has qualifying times, please ensure that the swimmer's current personal best is either, below the qualifying time where only one is specified, or between the qualifying times where an upper and lower time are specified, otherwise the entries will be rejected.
Nicky Sanders has spent a lot of time recently on entries which were not eligible to enter certain galas. Entry times can always be found on the Fixtures Page for each event.
Please also remember that cheques should be made payable to 'Chelmsford Swimming Club', and not the club hosting the gala, as we enter all our swimmers centrally.

Training and Sickness do not mix !!
26th October 2009
Over the last few weeks quite a few swimmers have been turning up to training with the start of a cold or flu, and getting out early or not training fully, which in the hot damp environment of the pool spreads the illness rapidly around the rest of the swimmers
Unless you are well enough to train properly, you should not attend a training session. Swimming is an intensive sport and requires 100% fitness, so if you are unwell please do not come to training and spread your germs to others. A few days off usually means you are not contagious, so please respect the other swimmers in your squad.
If you are interested in any of the activities undertaken by Chelmsford Swimming Club and wish to find out more, please email us at info@chelmsfordswimmingclub.org.uk.
