Welcome to Chelmsford Swimming Club
Ladies Waterpolo Team Triumph !
18th June 2013
Last Sunday saw a full strength ladies' Waterpolo squad travel to the Whitgift School in Croydon to play their 2nd round matches in this year's summer London League Division 2.
Their first match against the City of Oxford team resulted in a win of 5-2, with goals from Rachel Moore (2), Dani Brazier (2) and Hannah Parkinson (1).
The team's second match was against Iceni, and despite Iceni taking the first goal Chelmsford never looked back and after two seven minute halves beat them 7-3. This time goals came from Tor Hawes (2), Dani Brazier (2), Jess Kneller (1), Rachel Moore (1) and Hannah Parkinson (1).
Their final match saw them play the only team to have beaten them so far, Southampton, and tension was high as our army of spectators watched. The game was nip and tuck for the first half, and most of the second half, but two goals within the last two minutes put paid to Southampton's chances of repeating their last win against us. The team won 5-3, with goals from Dani Brazier (2), Jess Kneller (1), Hannah Parkinson (1) and Rachel Moore (1).
The Lady of the Night was Hannah Parkinson, and the team is currently in first place in the league, with their last two games to play on 21st July.

New National Qualifiers
31st May 2013
Congratulations to our two new first time national swimmers, Ole Mills who achieved his 200m breaststroke time and Eleanor Clarke who gained her 100m breaststroke time at the weekend in Sheffield. Courtney Sanders swam her 100m backstroke time and Hannah Travell added to her tally with her 200m Backstroke time.
This brings the club to an amazing 9 individual national swimmers and the 3 girl's relay team events - the most in it's history. Well done to all.

East Region Youth Championships 2013 - 4th & 5th May
20th May 2013
The Regional Youth Championships were held in Luton earlier this month and were a great opportunity for Chelmsford to deliver yet another outstanding performance in the pool. We are delighted with the results that they our swimmers have achieved and it is amazing to see CSC breaking so many county records and achieving swimming times that will see our club represented at a National level this year. Some of the highlights can be found here.
Essex Masters Swimming Championships - 11th May
17th May 2013
Nine Chelmsford Masters represented Chelmsford Swimming Club at the Essex Championships on 11th May 2013 at Thurrock Leisure Centre.
Sophie Castle, our only female representative, swam six events, winning five and coming second in the other. This excellent result won her fourth place in the overall individual awards. Gordon Cartwright, in his first ever swimming competition, swam three races and attained third in the 200m freestyle. Adam McMeeking came third in the 100m freestyle and Malcolm MacGregor entered three freestyle races coming third in the 400m. Fred Vaeremans was also swimming in his first gala and did well to finish second in the 50m backstroke and third in both the 50 and 100m freestyle. Dave Pethers, who was competing after a long absence from swimming, swam four races and medalled in all of them with a first, a second and two thirds. In his age group Kevin Chesworth was supreme in freestyle winning the 50, 100 and 200m in very fast times. Derek Gore also entered four events and finished with three firsts and a second place. The real star of the team was Nick Hunt who entered nine events and won all of them earning him the best individual male swimmer of the meet.
The team only entered one relay and were first in the 100m medley event. In the club competition Chelmsford were third overall, which was exceptional considering we had only nine swimmers.
Ladies London League Waterpolo - 12th May
17th May 2013
Our Ladies Water Polo team took part in their first competitive match last weekend, travelling to Croydon, for the opening games of the 2013 Summer London League.
The first game was against Southampton, an experienced National League team. The girls played hard and eventually lost the game 9-5. Scorers were Dani Brazier (3) and Tor Hawes (2).
The next game was against Iceni, the East Region team, who also play in the National League. This was a very close fought game with Chelmsford running out winners 6 - 4. Scorers in this match were Dani Brazier (4), Karen Rodwell (1) and Lizette DeBruyn (1).
This was a very good start to the Summer League campaign, especially as the team had a number of players missing due to exams! But what made it special was the team was made up of a pair of mother and daughter combinations with Caryn Brazier playing with daughter, Dani and Captain Karen Rodwell playing alongside daughters Louise and Laura.
Well done girls we are looking forward to the next round on June the 16th - Keep up the training !
Marie Curie Swimathon
16th May 2013
A Big Thank You for raising an amazing £4,500 for the Marie Curie Charity
Chelmsford Swimming Club took part in the world’s biggest fundraising swimming event and raised over £4,500, swimming a massive 30 miles in one hour. Swimmers aged 6 to 60 took part from across the whole club, including our Competitive Squad, Masters and SwimFit divisions in-addition-to some of our younger swimmers from the Development Squad.
New Hall School, were delighted to be able to support the event and supplied the pool and lifeguards to enable the club to take part.
Swimmers got into the spirit of the event, and created teams with names such as Torpedo Turtles, Triple Trouble and even the Harry Potter Banana Bunch, with matching swimsuits or team logos; and even the coaches managed to get in the water and swim the distance, with plenty of support from club swimmers on the sidelines.
Well Done to all of you that took part and don't forget to get any last sponsorship money in to Swimathon and next year we will be looking for even more of you to take part!!
GB Waterpolo team update
12th May 2013
As she prepares to travel with the Team GB Under 15's girls water polo squad to Hungary, Dani Brazier is now very proud to be able to wear her GBR Hoody and Shirt. The Team will be flying out of London Stansted on the 25th May for 4 days of International Water Polo, both training and playing ahead of the week long UK summer training camp at Millfields School, Somerset in August.
Dani, who used to swim competitively for CSC wishes more girls, especially ex-competitive swimmers would get involved - "The competitive spirit is brilliant and it's great being part of a team of mixed ages and abilities. Winning makes it even better!" We'd like to wish Dani and her GB Teammates a very successful trip.

Synchronised Swimming Section Win Gold
5th April 2013
Following the success of the Chelmsford Swimming Club synchronised swimming team at the Essex County Championships held at Riverside Ice and Leisure last year, the team set off to the East Regional competition held at Stevanage this month and once again performed spectacularly. With Gold medals in a number of categories, the synchronised team are delighted with their achievements and looking forward to continued success.
Members of the club, who train at Riverside Ice and Leisure, focused on developing exciting routines that were delivered with the precision and flair you would expect from one of the Counties most succesful synchronised swimming teams.
Jessica Goodman and Eleanor Randall produced solo routines that saw Gold and Bronze being won respectively, with a Gold also being awarded to Nina Fix in the 18-19 year old category.
In the duets there was further success with Evie Reynolds and Lena Leinaman (Age 9) winning Gold in their first ever competition, Emily Jennings and Jenny Chandler (Age 12 and under) retaining their Gold medal position and winning the duet category and new comers Ari Cook and Lucy Jones also winning Gold with an outstanding performance and team mates Alex Jellicoe and Josephine Worsley coming in third. In the Open Duet, Laura Frostick and Lucy Bird, two of the clubs most experienced and talented synchronised swimmers were delighted to bring home a Silver medal from the Regional event.
There was further delight in the team performances with a Bronze medal in the 13-14 years age group and in the open team category.
The whole club performed brilliantly and were excited to have performed so well against strong competition from across the East Region.
More details, and pictures can be found on the Synchro section's results page here.

British Gas International Swimming Meet 2013
14th March 2013
Congratulations to Eliza Duffy for her efforts at the inaugural British Gas International Swimming Meet held in Leeds. The event attracted a host of national and international swimmers, many of whom are Olympians who competed in London 2012. Top domestic representation came from Liam Tancock, Michael Jamieson, Hannah Miley and Francesca Halsall.
Eliza competed in the 50, 100 and 200 Backstroke events over the 4 day competition. Eliza made the junior final in both the 50 and 100 Backstroke and finished 11th in the 200 Backstroke junior event. Eliza finished 6th and 7th in the 50 Backstroke and 100 Backstroke junior finals respectively, breaking in the process (subject to ratification) the 50 Backstroke Junior and Senior County records and the 50 Backstroke Junior East Region record.
Essex Championships - Block A
2nd March 2013
A big well done to those who competed at Block A of the Essex Championships last weekend. There were some outstanding swims during this first of three weekends. 13 Golds, 17 Silvers and 11 Bronzes helped place Chelmsford SC second in the county before going into the next weekend's events.
A big well done to Eliza Duffy for knocking over one and a half seconds off a fifteen year old Essex short course record in the Girls 200m backstroke. Eliza clocked up a time of 2:16.73 to secure the win and record one of the fastest times in the country for her age this year.
Good luck for the next block at Braintree.
12th February 2013
Last Sunday Basildon, at Basildon Sporting Village, hosted a small tournament between teams from Chelmsford, Basildon & Deben.
Our younger team, made up of members born 2000 / 2001 showed some impressive gameplay bearing in mind the small amount of competitive experience some of them have had. For many, this was their first proper game in deep water.
They lost their first game against Basildon 11-2 but useful experience was gained by all and they went on to an outstanding win of 7-0 against the Deben team.
The top goal scorer was Mitchell Ratcliff, scoring 5 of the goals in the Deben match, supported by George Readings and Gordon Woods who scored one a piece.
Our 1998 / 1999 team were very successful in both their matches, beating Deben 9-3 and winning against Basildon 6-5
There was some great defending in the back row and goalie Joseph Clark performed admirably as ever, while our forwards attacked relentlessly and goals were scored with good examples of teamwork and feeding the pit. WELL DONE EVERYONE!
Top goal scorers over both matches were as follows: Dani Brazier - 7, Will Dixon - 5, Patrick Guider - 1, Luca Del Guidice - 1, Joseph Edwards - 1
Thanks again to all parents, friends and relatives who were shouting their support from the gallery - we could certainly hear you down on poolside and it's much appreciated!
10th February 2013
The Club's Disco and Presentation evening was a great success, as it celebrated some outstanding achievements across the whole club. The awards were handed out by our very own medalist Dawn Bracken, who was recently awarded a British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours list for her work as a Pre-Games Volunteer at London 2012. The club were delighted Dawn could be there to congratulate the trophy winners and to give recognition to some of the volunteers who work behind the scenes to make the club so successful.
A great night was had by all, and our thanks go to Louise and all her helpers for making the evening so spectacular.
Some other photos from the evening can be found here.

Redbridge Winter Meet
9th January 2013
A great turnout this weekend at the Redbridge WInter Meet. Despite an early start on both days, club swimmers turned out in force for their last chance to achieve qualification times for the Essex County Championships starting on the 22nd February.
Well done to all swimmers that competed and particularly those that achieved new qualifying times.
British Empire Medal for Dawn Bracken
7th January 2013
Congratulations to one of our long standing members and coaches, Dawn Bracken, for being awarded a British Empire Medal in the New Year Honours list for her work as a Pre-Games Volunteer at London 2012.
Dawn, a long standing member of Chelmsford Swimming Club, has volunteered with CSC in a number of roles as Masters Secretary, teacher, coach, competition secretary and press and PR officer and was delighted to be selected in 2009 as a pre-games volunteer for London 2012 and eventually contributed more than 1500 hours with the Nations and Regions team (a department at LOCOG whose job it was to get the message of the Games around all the Nations and Regions of the UK).
Dawn's passion for swimming also resulted in her being selected as a Games Maker in the Aquatics centre during the Olympics and Paralympics and gave her the opportunity to chaperone athletes from the moment they got out of the water until they arrived at the medal ceremony area, including chaperoning Michael Phelps on his last ever race!
"I would happily do it all again, given the chance. I finished volunteering with London 2012 at the end of October and was then offered a job working on the Games Maker legacy. My job has meant I've had to take a break from coaching for a while but I hope to return to it soon" Dawn Bracken
Basildon & Braintree Meets
17th December 2012
Our swimmers were out in force this weekend competing in two separate events: the Basildon Winter Long Course Meet and the Braintree Christmas Cracker. It was fantastic to see so many of the clubs swimmers pushing themselves to get last minute times to compete in the Essex County Championships in 2013 or gain new Regional times and some great results were seen at both meets. Look out for the final results to be posted on the Fixtures Page when they are available.
There is one final opportunity to get new qualifying times for the 2013 Essex Championship at the Redbridge Winter Meet taking place on the 5th and 6th January, so don't forget to send any new entries through to Nicky Sanders at the end of the event.
Essex Winter Championships
17th December 2012
Several of our swimmers took part in the the Essex Long Course Winter Championships on the 23rd - 25th November where we had some fantastic swims so early on in the season and for the first long course meet. There were several younger swimmers attending for the first time and Chelmsford ended up in 2nd place behind Romford. This again is great news as Romford have almost triple the amount of swimmers to Chelmsford and we have managed to beat all the big London Clubs.
National Arena League
17th December 2012
The swimmers at Chelmsford Swimming Club were over the moon to have finally made it back into the Premier League of the National Arena Swimming League after gradually working their way up the results tables over the last four years.
We were up against some incredibly good competition and we managed to win on the day, which means that Chelmsford finished top of Division 1 South and will be promoted next season to the Premier Division South. This is a huge achievement and shows how far the Club has come over the last 3 years with talent and depth of swimmers available.
The event saw some great swims from those that took part and a number of their swimmers won their respective events in all three rounds:- including Eliza and Max Duffy, Ethan Harrington and Courtney Sanders and the girls 15 & Under Freestyle & Medley Team remained undefeated.
The last time Chelmsford were in the Premier Division was 2006, when we were unfortunately relegated so this is a great result for the club.
Congratulations to Joseph Clarke

Tor Hawes only played in the 2 Sunday matches and scored 3 overall, and Rachel Moore (who swims for Basildon, but plays Waterpolo for us) scored her first two competitive goals and has only been playing for a month !!
Well done girls !!

Training and Sickness do not mix !!
26th October 2009
Over the last few weeks quite a few swimmers have been turning up to training with the start of a cold or flu, and getting out early or not training fully, which in the hot damp environment of the pool spreads the illness rapidly around the rest of the swimmers
Unless you are well enough to train properly, you should not attend a training session. Swimming is an intensive sport and requires 100% fitness, so if you are unwell please do not come to training and spread your germs to others. A few days off usually means you are not contagious, so please respect the other swimmers in your squad.
If you are interested in any of the activities undertaken by Chelmsford Swimming Club and wish to find out more, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
