Cake Sale in aid of GB Girls U17 Waterpolo Qualifiers

17th December 2014

Thank you to all the people who bought cakes, raffle tickets or made a donation last night at Riverside Ice & Leisure Centre.

A total of £81 was made on cake sales and donations, and a magnificent £120 on the raffle (selling all the tickets we held) !

Our own Dani Brazier is a member of the GB Girls U17 Waterpolo squad, and because of the removal of all funding for GB waterpolo by UK Sport they are having to fund their own entry to the European Championship qualifiers, to be held in France in March 2015. Success in the qualifiers against teams from France, Czechoslovakia, Portugal and Switzerland would mean playing in the first ever European Olympics in Baku, Azerbaijan in June 2015.

Due to the generosity of CSC members, and players and parents at other Waterpolo fixtures around the country, which the girls attend, they are well on their way to reaching their £2500 target (to be matched with another £2500 by a generous donation) by March next year.

Return of Trophies

5th December 2014

It's the time of year when all the club trophies won last year need to be returned in preparation for the presentation evening in 2015.

If you are in possession of a trophy, or trophies, can they be cleaned and polished and returned to Katherine Eley by 19th December.

All trophy holders will have received an email early this afternoon, via Club Organiser, to remind them.

Katherine or her husband Robert are normally at New Hall on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday mornings, and Monday and some Friday evenings and at Moulsham on Thursday evening. If you are unable to make it to any of those places at the times given then email Katherine at trophies@chelmsfordswimmingclub.org.uk instead to make alternative arrangements.

Regional Swimming Championships 2015

25th November 2014

The Eastern Region Technical Swimming Committee has been working hard to secure pools for 2015 to fit into the new Competition Pathway calendar

They are pleased to announce that they have now secured confirmation from the pools that they can have Luton on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of May 2015 and UEA Norwich on the 23rd, 24th and 25th of May 2015.

In consultation with a group of coaches from the Region, they have been reviewing the Qualifying times and schedule for next year's Championships, and whilst they have not been able to incorporate all of the suggestions, they have managed to accommodate most of them.

The qualifying times have now been published (they are available on the Fixtures page, and they feel it is important to explain how they were arrived at.

The major points to bear in mind are:

** Approximately 24 in events with finals, 20 in events with Heat Declared Winners and 8 in distance events.

In a few events and age groups where there was insufficient data to get sensible times, the qualifying time has been calculated to result in a reasonable progression time across the age range.

Congratulations to Dani Brazier, and the rest of the GB U17 Waterpolo team, who recently played in the International 4 Nations Tournament in Warendorf, Germany and came away as runners-up despite some older opposition from Germany, Serbia and Holland.

The girl's next overseas trip will be a training camp in Hungary in October, followed by the qualifying rounds of the European Championships in January/February 2015.

National Age Group Championships 2014

30th July 2014

Three swimmers from Chelmsford Swimming Club are competing at this years championships which began early this morning at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. They are Charlie Boden, Amelia Barnetson and Annabelle Kitching. Charlie was the sole competitor from the club competing today and has made tonight's final as second qualifier in the boys 13yrs 100m Backstroke. The competition is fierce and there are only 7 tenths of a second between 1st and 10th. The competition is being streamed live on the internet here.

Tonight's finals start at 5pm and Charlie is in the 5th final of the evening, so good luck to him.

Look on the website daily for up to date results and schedules. If you have been watching the Commonwealth Games and need some more swimming to watch then why not catch up with how CSC swimmers are getting on in Sheffield.

Next week in Sheffield the National Youth Championships take over from the Age Groups. Good luck to Gus Veasey, Ethan Harrington, Courtney Sanders and Hannah Travell who are competing for the club. Also club member Tom McLagan, who is finalising his preperation at the club, competes for Kelly College, for the last time, after attending there for 2 years. Again, keep an eye on the website for schedules and results etc. This will also be streamed live.

East Region Open Water Championships

28th July 2014

A small team of keen Chelmsford swimmers travelled to Norwich to compete in the East Region Open Water Championships.

Avid chelmsford parents arrived with picnics, rugs, chairs and even a large gazebo and dutifully set up camp together on the bank and armed themselves with binoculars ready to try to spot the swimmers going past.

First up was Daniel McLagen and Liam Nicholson in the 3k after the usual delays they finally got away and both boys done a very impressive swim finishing in the leading group. This resulted in Dan getting Gold for Essex county and Silver for East Regionals and Liam got Bronze for Essex and just missed a regional medal by being 4th in the region. Dan also managed to cut his foot when he first got in and ended up in first aid having it dressed!!

Next up was Ryan Kelly and Alexandra Rae for the 2k swim. Again both impressive swims with Ryan having a real battle with another swimmer down the home straight. Ryan came 3rd for Essex and 7th in the region which was fantastic as it was his first ever experience of open water competition and to say he was nervous is an understatement especially as all his extended family turned up to watch! Alex also swum fantastic with not a cough in sight and came second in Essex and 16th in the Region.

Next was the novices 800m swimmers with Scarlett Morine, Ciara Nicholson and Tom Ward all going together in the first wave. Scarlett and Ciara where both taking the event in their stride whilst Tom was panicking asking ten thousand questions and insisting he wasn't going to do it competitively, (big sigh from mum!)

With 69 swimmers in this wave it was a bit of a scrap but the Chelmsford little ones barged their way through and resulted in Scarlett finishing in second place in the heat and Tom being the first boy home and Ciara followed in closely afterwards having completed a fab swim. Holly Thompson then went in the third wave going out strong and maintained a good pace throughout. The final results for this was Scarlett 2nd in Essex and 9th in the region, Tom 1st in Essex and 2nd in region, Ciara 4th in essex. Holly also got 2nd for Essex and 6th in the region.

After further hanging around and long delays for results it was the 1.5k which Kayleigh Ward, William Banks and a rather brave if not mad Liam Nicholson ( second event of the day) were competing. Kayleigh and William where both in the 1st wave and went out strong with the usual pushing and shoving for positions. They both swam of completely out of sight and us mothers waited anxiously to see if they would return! Kayleigh came down the home straight battling with another swimmer and managed just to out touch the other girl resulting in being the 4th girl home in the wave. William also completed the course strongly and finished with a huge smile on his face ! Liam went in the second wave and how he managed to summons up the energy to do another fab swim I don't know! Just as the third wave was about to start it started to rain and I enjoyed watching the parents sitting on the bank start to scramble for shelter. After the third wave had been going for approx 10mins the heavens opened and thunder and lightening started. Chelmsford parents played a game of how many people and stuff can you fit under one gazebo as the event organisers scrambled the boats to bring all the swimmers back to safety. The lead group just managed to complete the course.

Event organisers gave places to all swimmers that completed it which resulted in Kayleigh getting 2nd place for Essex and 7th in the region and Liam finishing strongly but I am unsure of his final placing.

Unfortunately the 5k race was cancelled completely due to the weather but luckily chelmsford didn't have any entries for this one.

After a long wait and no let up from the rain everyone made mad dashes to the car and ended up wetter than the swimmers. What a relief to get home!

Congratulations Dani, and good luck for the year ahead.

3rd Eric Shepherd Meet at Harlow

23rd June 2014

Well done to all the CSC swimmers who competed at the 3rd Eric Shepherd Open Meet at Harlow on Saturday 21st June.

The event was hugely popular, with more than 300 swimmers taking part making it an incredibly exciting (noisy!) gala and there were some fantastic swims from every member of the CSC Team.

The team-spirit, support and enthusiasm our swimmers showed for each other was second to none and a parent from a local club summed up the day saying "Chelmsford are on FIRE at the moment!"

At the end of what was to be an extraordinarily long day for our swimmers (in excess of 10 hours in some cases) Chelmsford won the Overall Top Club Award, gaining a sizeable new trophy for their cabinet. Well done to Scarlett Morine (11) who won the Overall Top Girl Award and to Owen Vaughan who came second in the Top Boy category.

Overall the club won 20 Golds, 15 Silvers and 7 Bronze medals.

East Region BAGCat Championships - 2nd Weekend

23rd June 2014

The second weekend of events was certainly exciting – with some great swimming from all our swimmers but once again the boys stole the show with an amazing tally of medals.

Owen Vaughan (10) added to his medals from last weekend with 3 Gold Medals, including the 200m IM, 200m Freestyle and the 100m Freestyle plus 2 Silver medals in the 100m Breaststroke and the 400m Freestyle. With a total of 8 medals over the competition he was Chelmsford Swimming Clubs top-performing swimmer and was 2nd overall in his age group, which is a fantastic performance at his first ever Regional Competition.

Sam Perks (12) also continued his winning streak gaining a 5th Gold medal in the 200m IM and a silver medal in the 100m Butterfly, bringing his medal count to 7 and also coming 2nd overall in the 12 years age group.

And finally, Charlie Boden (13) wasn’t to be beaten winning a further 3 medals, silver in the 200m Freestyle, Silver in the 400m Freestyle and a bronze in the 100m Fly – also coming 2nd in the Age 13 years age group.

The girls, not to be outdone, come out fighting with Amelia Barnetson (13) gaining a 2nd Gold in the 200m Breaststroke and Annabelle Kitching (12) a Silver in the 400m IM. Both of which provided them with National Qualifying times.

Congratulations to everyone who took part.

Lady's Waterpolo - London League Division 1

17th June 2014

Congratulations to the lady's waterpolo team who last weekend took part in the first round of games of this year's summer London League. Despite some much more experienced opposition, they finshed their two games having won one and lost one.

The team was bolstered by 3 girls from Crawley, Lara Partridge, Grace Walker and Abby-Louise Rocky, who often play with Dani Brazier for both Great Britain and Crawley, and the score in the first game, against Polytechnic, was 8-4. Goals scored by Dani Brazier (4), Abby-Louise Rocky (1), Hannah Parkinson (1), Lara Partridge (1) and Helena Wright (1).

The second game, against last year's winners Beckenham, was not the walkover they expected, and although we eventually lost 7-14 there was some good play from all involved, but unfortunately also some suspect refereeing decisions! However, goals were scored by Grace Walker (2), Dani Brazier (2), Stacey Freedman (2) & Helena Wright (1).

Well done ladies, and here's to the next round of matches in July.

Success for Chelmsford swimmers in the first weekend of the East Region BAGCat Championships

10th June 2014

The Club and it's swimmers had a great first weekend at the regional age group swimming championships in Norwich, winning 6 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals. Halfway through the championships, with next weekend still to come, Chelmsford lie 4th in the overall medals table, with only bigger swimming clubs ahead of us.

Gold medals were won by Sam Perks (pictured) in the 11 years 400IM; 100 Backstroke, 200 Backstroke, and 200 Breaststroke; Charlie Boden in the 13 years 100 Backstroke, and Amelia Barnetson in the 13 years 100 Breaststroke. Sam also won silver in the 200 Butterfly, with Charlie winning silver medals in the 200 Backstroke and 200 Butterfly and a bronze in the 400 IM.

Amelia Barnetson’s swim in the 100 Breaststroke also gained her a National qualifying time. Owen Vaughan with 2 silvers (400IM; 200 Breast) and a bronze (100 Back) in the boys 10 years, and Harry McLagan with a bronze in the boys 11 years 200 Backstroke were the other medallists.

As well as the medallists Becky Kitching just missed out twice with 4th places in the girls 13 years 800 and 400 Freestyle, Eleanor Clarke was also 4th in the girls 14 years 100 Breast, and there were PBs for other Chelmsford swimmers. The boys 4 x 100 freestyle relay team came 8th and the girls team 7th, and the mixed 4 x 100 relay team came 4th.

Full results can be found here.

Training and Sickness do not mix !!

26th October 2009

Over the last few weeks quite a few swimmers have been turning up to training with the start of a cold or flu, and getting out early or not training fully, which in the hot damp environment of the pool spreads the illness rapidly around the rest of the swimmers

Unless you are well enough to train properly, you should not attend a training session. Swimming is an intensive sport and requires 100% fitness, so if you are unwell please do not come to training and spread your germs to others. A few days off usually means you are not contagious, so please respect the other swimmers in your squad.
