Sarah then swam the Fly also holding on to 2nd place leaving Hannah to finish the race with the Freestyle. The girls finished in 2nd place behind Hatfield, and just missed out on a national place. Junior Speedo League - Round 3 - 27th June 2010

Junior Speedo League R3 Team - 2010

All the children did really well and were very well behaved. We only had a few DQ's this time.

Although we drew with Anaconda on league points they won it on gala points from round 3. That means we stay in division 1 for next year.

The final results were:-

Gala Results

League Results

All the volunteers did well too. Bob Snow did a fantastic job coordinating all the officials and leading the gala, Chris Clarke did well with the announcing and Paul Brazier took to being starter like he'd done it before! Paul Duffy and Simon Ratcliff handled the recorders roles superbly and Paul's efficiency and accuracy was amazing. Thanks also to the people who helped timekeep, referee, judge, steward and whip.

Braintree Open is next week and Ipswich Summer Sprints the week after so lets hope we get some good pb's and results from those two opens to finish the season.

Well done again to everyone.

East Region BAGCat Championships - 5th/6th June 2010

Well done to all the swimmers that swam in the 'Easterns' last weekend. Courtney Sanders narrowly missed a medal place and national time in the 200m Individual Medley to start the day, but finished the weekend with a haul of 3 Bronze medals in the 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle and 400m Freestyle. Gus Veasey swam well in the 400m IM to get 3rd and another Bronze. The end of the first session on Saturday culminated in an exciting 800m Freestyle race which saw Danica Brazier win her heat by 1/10th of a second to not only gain another Bronze medal, but her first National qualifying time. The second session on Saturday saw Courtney win her first Bronze, and Eliza Duffy the first Gold in the 100m Freestyle.
Sunday started well with a Bronze medal for Eliza in the 100m Fly, then came the turn of our youngest swimmer, Liam Nicholson in the 200m Breastroke. Liam was ranked in first place in the heats, and true to form swam a steady race to go into the final in 1st place with a time of 3:23.53. However, he blew that time out of the water (so to speak) in the final, not only finishing in the Gold medal position but knocking another 6 seconds off his heat time to notch up his second ever club record !
The remainder of the weekend's glory went to Courtney and Eliza, winning 2 Bronze medals and a Silver medal respectively.
Well done to the other swimmers, notably Evie Moir-Smith, who secured a 5th place in the final of the 100m Fly with a new PB, and Orin Mann who swam well in the 100m Freestyle.

There was a mention at the end for the top girl title, and it was announced that Eleanor McCaffrey (12) came joint 2nd after coming 1st in four of her races and 3rd in another and Evie Fisher (15/Over) came 4th having won 2 golds and 3 silvers.

Mention must also be made to the following swimmers who were all placed in the medals, Alex Rae, Isabella Collins, Holly Thompson, Bethany Harrington, Gabriel Summers, Daniel Paddon, Declan Hardy, Orin Mann, Ross Davy, Liam Nicholson who was placed in the top 3 in all 5 of his races, Charlie Getting, Arran Rae and Max Duffy who achieved a hat trick of silver medals. For some of the above this was their first outing to an open meet so hopefully there were very happy children at the end of the day.

All the children swam exceptionally well and the results are now on the website under the fixture list.

Both Simon and I were proud to be on poolside with the children whom all behaved impeccably and were a credit to Chelmsford Swimming Club.

National Arena League - Round 3 - 12th December 2009

After a much earlier arrival at Maidstone Leisure Centre this time, the team then had to wait for another late arrival so the match didn't start until nearly 7pm, the team performed very well against two very strong teams from Sevenoaks and Orpington and finished 3rd, both on the night and overall in the league.

National Arena League - Round 2 - 14th November 2009

Despite the coach journey from hell, which meant that the bulk of the team didn't arrive at the Beckenham Pool until 7.30pm (19 races had already been raced), the team went on to secure 2nd place on the evening, and remain equal 1st in the league overall.

Special mention should go to Courtney Sanders, Ellie Stamp and Liam Nicholson who managed to arrive at the event under their own steam and raced as many races as they could until the coach arrived.

British Gas National Age Group Championships - Sheffield

Would the endless hours of training and early mornings have been enough to allow our young talented squad to make their mark? Five Chelmsford swimmers travelled to Ponds Forge, Sheffield to attend the British Gas National age group championships. Qualification times for the event are extremely challenging and only the top few percent of swimmers qualify.

Scheduled over five days, Daniel Sorrell (14) was first to compete in the 400m Freestyle and had a good swim, giving a morale boost to the younger members of the team. Courtney Sanders (11) and Eliza Duffy (12) in the 100m Freestyle both achieved personal best times and secured places in the evening finals. Gus Veasey (12) also secured a place in the final swimming a PB in the 200m Breaststroke. Courtney, Eliza and Alana Jones (13) ended the morning session with good performances in the 200m backstroke.

Returning to Ponds Forge on a vey hot evening, Courtney swam with great courage to take 9th place, while her team mate Eliza managed to secure another PB and finish 6th. Gus had some tough competition and finished 10th. Coach Karen Turner said of the first day, “there were some fantastic individual performances out there today”.

Courtney and Dan returned on Thursday for the 400m Freestyle and 1500m Freestyle respectively. Courtney made the final and swam another PB in the process. She then swam into 10th place in the final later in the day. Dan achieved a PB of 17:06.70.

On Friday, Eliza gained another PB and made the final of the 200m Freestyle. The evening saw Eliza rise to the challenge and improve upon her mornings time to finish 7th.

Dan Sorrell turned out to give the girls some much needed support and both girls gained new PBs in the 100m backstroke, with Courtney again qualifying for the finals. Tables turned and the girls were on poolside to cheer Dan on in the 800m Freestyle. Courtney’s placing in the final was 10th.

On the final day, Eliza and Courtney put in good performances in the 200m Individual Medley, completing their set of BAGCAT points across the four disciplines (sprint, distance, form and Medley), finishing 11th and 13th respectively.

Dean Woodock was our only youth entry. He has been specialising this year in medley races and competed in the 400m Individual Medley.

Ipswich Summer Sprint Meet - 11th/12th July 2009

“I could get addicted to these pbs”

Alex Rae’s quote of the weekend above says it all, what a fantastic weekend for the 19 swimmers that attended the Ipswich Summer Meet.

We could count on one hand the number of swims that were not a personal best for the children involved. It was a pleasure to watch as each swimmer consistently produced excellent swims one after the other.

Emma Harley who has not long been in the Squad produced some amazing swims knocking almost consistently up to 10 seconds off all her 100 sprint times. Liam Nicholson, showed us that he was something to look out for in the future, collecting a good haul of medals to take home. Bethany and Lauren Harrington again took home a nice collection of medals and lots of smiles from Bethany with her medals hanging round her neck. Mathew Knowles, Jack Pickering, James Winter, Gabriel Summers, Charlotte Hayley, Millie Gillespie, Alex Rae had all their swims moving in the right direction and did a pb in every one of their events. Aaran Rae, Eleanor Mccaffrey, Rebecca Smith, Jack and Dani Mcintrye all swam well and gained several pbs between them. A good competition ensued between Danica Brazier and Evie Moir-Smith, both of whom swam extremely well and who were both in the running to get top girl in the 10 year old age group. Danica led the field consistently right up to the end of session 3, but unfortunately due to the restriction of entry times she was unable to swim the last two races and therefore was pipped to the title by a swimmer from another club. Evie Fisher swam pbs in all her races apart from one, beating every girl in all age groups for the 100im with a fantastic swim. Again in the running for top girl in her age group missed out by 1 point at the very end.

What a pleasure to have such fantastic swimmers at Chelmsford, they were a credit to the club with their team spirit and good behaviour. I am sure there are a lot of very happy but tired children today with a lot of deserved medals. Well done to all that were there. I enjoyed every minute of it.

All the other Chelmsford swimmers were part of the relay teams, and swam well with great determination and effort. It is a real privilege to represent the county in these competitions and all the swimmers selected should be very proud of their achievements. They all received a County Hat and T-shirt and were a credit to Chelmsford Swimming Club. Well done.

Junior League Final Team - 2009

Junior Swimming League Final - 28th June 2009

Congratulations to all the swimmers that competed on Sunday in the Final Junior League Gala.

We had another fantastic evening and all the swimmers gave 100%. The final result was extremely close and we missed out on the top position by 1 point.

This was our first year in this competition and we did really well to finish in 2nd place. There were some superb swims throughout the evening and a great team spirit. The children all gained valuable racing experience as well as the opportunity to represent Chelmsford in a National League. Well done.

Thank you for all your efforts and determination. Let's see what we can achieve in next year's competition. Please keep training hard and the team will get better, faster and stronger.

Thank you to all the parents who supported the competition and for your commitment to your children’s swimming, and to the club.

Colchester Open Meet - 23rd May 2009

Well done to all the swimmers that competed on Saturday in the 2009 Colchester Open Meet.

The clear winners of the Reg Baines trophy for the best visiting club were Chelmsford, with 172 points. Rochford (128) edged into second place ahead of Brentwood (123) and Bishop's Stortford (75) narrowly claimed fourth from Harwich (74) and Braintree (62). Hosts Colchester scored 485.

Chelmsford also led in the girls' competition with 117 points. Bishop's Stortford's all-girls team amassed 75 points while Harwich (57) narrowly snatched third place from Braintree (56). In the boys' competition, Rochford's 85 point haul beat Brentwood (78) into second place; Chelmsford's boys (55) could only manage third. Colchester boys scored 309 and girls 176.

Philippa Davenall of Colchester won all her five races, breaking four records in the process, to win the best girl award. Colchester swimmers Matthew Lemnell (who broke two records) and Tom Vickers (who equalled one record) both scored 28 points out of a maximum 30 so the best boy award was decided on the "tie breaker" and went to Matthew as the youngest swimmer.

This really was a year when the records tumbled - including four which had stood for over 10 years! Apart from those mentioned above, Arran Francis, Cameron Simpson and Sargon Youssefi of Colchester all set two records, as did Eleanor McCaffrey of Chelmsford. Ross Davy of Chelmsford and Jim Vickers of Colchester took one each while Ben Neale of Chelmsford equalled one."

Evie Fisher of Chelmsford was 2nd overall in the girls points missing out on top place by only 1 point, Eleanor McCaffrey was 4th, Danica Brazier was 8th and Evie Moir-Smith was 18th.

In the boys points table, Ben Neale was 12th and Ross Davy was 16th.

Well done to everyone who took part and particular thanks are owing to Bob Snow, Giuliana Fisher and Paulene Sorrell for giving up their time and being on pool side with our swimmers.
